"If in other sectors there is a crisis at a certain moment, with us the crisis is permanent, only the reason for it changes," said poultry farmer Nikolay Kolev, describing the state of the sector to Nova TV days before Easter, when tension around egg prices is traditionally expected. Near Dobrich, his farm produces about 11,000 eggs daily, but behind these numbers lies a business that barely survives. Kolev has been in the industry for 14 years and is adamant that problems never stop - only the reasons change. According to the producer, the sector is subject to constant pressure from external factors. "Whether it will be the war in Ukraine and the prices of raw materials will rise enormously, whether it will be COVID and consumption in restaurants will stop," he explains. In addition, there are the increasingly serious costs of energy and fuels, as well as the chronic shortage of labor. "Now the prices of energy sources are starting to increase. I don't even have an idea what the effects will be in the next three to six months..."
