Excessive rainfall in the EU, especially in France and Germany, is raising concerns about the yield potential for the 2024 planting season. The wet conditions have delayed spring barley sowing in France, the EU's largest grain producer. As a result, Strategie Grains has lowered its forecast for the EU's 2024 soft wheat production, which is expected to be 2.5% lower than last year. Despite these concerns, grain prices remain low, with European wheat and corn prices falling due to improved growing conditions in Argentina and Brazil, and competition from cheap Ukrainian imports. However, rapeseed prices are showing a slight recovery.
