The Argentine government, under President Javier Milei, has announced the termination of the Argentine Wheat Stabilizing Fund (FETA), marking the first of 29 Trust Funds to be eliminated in an effort to reduce public spending. This move, confirmed by presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni, is part of Milei's broader strategy to dismantle what he views as 'black boxes of politics' that misuse public funds. Initially established in March 2022 to help stabilize domestic wheat prices and support the Fair Prices program, the FETA's elimination is a step towards streamlining state financing and cutting down on the reliance on trust funds, with the government aiming to address nearly USD 2,000 million in spending through the elimination of 9 of these funds by decree.
