(Korea Agricultural News = Reporter Kang Hye-ran) The Korea Forest Service (Chief Park Eun-sik) announced on the 1st that it has strengthened the Korea-Indonesia forestry cooperation relationship by signing a "Basic Agreement on Core Programs in the Forestry Field (FA)" and a "Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Forest Fire Management and Restoration of Forest Fire Damage" with the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry. The agreement, signed by Park Eun-sik, Chief of the Korea Forest Service, and Raja Juli Antoni, Minister of the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry, includes cooperation areas for sustainable management of forests and mangrove forests, management of forest disasters such as forest fires, and development of the forest carbon market to respond to the climate crisis. Moreover, the two countries agreed to cooperate in expanding the Asia Forest Fire Management Capacity Building Project (FFMA) through the Asian Forestry Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) and monitoring forest fire damage and forest restoration projects using agricultural and forestry satellites. In particular, the Indonesian delegation experienced Korea's advanced aerial firefighting system with helicopters and drones for rapid response to forest fires and discussed cooperation and development plans. Chief Park Eun-sik said, "Korea and Indonesia have been key partners in international exchanges for over 40 years in forestry cooperation," and "In the midst of the deepening climate crisis, we will strengthen cooperation with Indonesia to achieve sustainable forest management and response to forest fire disasters."
