The Minister of Agriculture in Russia, Dmitry Patrushev, has called for the regions of the Far Eastern and Northwestern Federal Districts to diversify their agricultural exports beyond fish and seafood to increase export volumes. The regions, which currently contribute 80% of Russia's fish and seafood exports, could also focus on producing soybeans, rapeseed, meat, and dairy products. However, the challenge lies in the high competition from China in the processed fish market and the lower demand for environmentally friendly products in China due to the pig breeding losses from African swine fever. In 2019, Russia exported agricultural products worth $25.5 billion to 158 countries, with grains constituting 31% of the exports.
