The Kakhovskaya HPP's destruction has severely impacted Ukraine's only state sturgeon farm, located in Dniprovske, Kherson region. The farm, which has been in operation since 1984, has been submerged and can no longer house over 1.5 million young sturgeons annually. This poses a significant threat to the reproduction of sturgeon fish populations and could lead to their extinction in Ukrainian reservoirs. The loss is expected to have ecological implications not only for Ukraine but also for the Black Sea basin. Additionally, the incident is projected to cause substantial damage to the fishing industry, with potential losses reaching 95 thousand tons or approximately 4 billion UAH for adult sturgeons. Preliminary calculations estimate the total losses from the death of all biological resources at 10.5 billion UAH.
