The Region of Murcia is the leading spice exporting province in Spain as a whole last year, with 72.5 percent of the total exported. In 2022, regional sales of spices abroad reached a value of 304 million euros, which represented an increase of more than 20 percent compared to the previous year. The first eight months of 2023 reaffirm this leadership, as well as the upward trend of the previous year, having increased exports between January and August by 6.7 percent in relation to 2022. A hundred spice companies in the Region sell to the markets foreign. The main export destinations are the United States, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. The best-selling spices are pepper and paprika, which account for 80 percent of the total, according to data provided by the regional government. Ginger, saffron and turmeric account for 12 percent.
