Up until now, compensation payments to owners for animals that died due to a confirmed case of foot-and-mouth disease in small ruminants (SRD) amount to a total of 4,540,050 BGN, said the Minister of Agriculture and Food Georgi Tahkov in response to a question from MP Kostadin Hadzhiyski, Agri.BG learned. Farms affected by the disease in the country are over 160, and the number of animals that died exceeds 18,000. According to the procedure for confirming an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in SRD, farmers must submit an application to the director of the respective regional food safety directorate (RFSD) within three working days from the date of the animals' death, destruction, or death. A declaration that the animals are not insured must also be submitted with the documents.
