The Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Parliament recently held a discussion on the impact of the lack of an agreement between the EU and GB on the EU potato supply chain, with Europatat, the European Potato Traders Association, highlighting the issues. The main issue is the EU's refusal to import seed potatoes from GB due to health regulations and equivalence requirements, leading to a loss of access to certain potato varieties and limiting EU export opportunities to GB. This situation is causing significant problems for various EU businesses, including breeders, seed traders, seed growers, and ware potato growers, across countries such as Spain, France, Denmark, Poland, Finland, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic. Europatat is urging for a resolution to this deadlock to prevent regulatory divergence between the EU and UK markets and to maintain fair competition and market balance.
