Approximately 2,000 people in Benemérito de las Américas, Chiapas, Mexico, protested against two African palm oil factories, Sustainable Oil and Agro IMSA, demanding their closure or regulation due to environmental pollution and health concerns. The protesters also highlighted the factories' exploitation of over 800 workers, mainly Guatemalans, who are not provided with social security or compensation for accidents. The protest also addressed the deforestation of the Lacandona jungle and the harmful effects on agriculture and livestock.
