The Jeonnam Provincial Institute of Ocean Science and Technology has initiated efforts to revitalize the local fishing economy and support resource recovery by releasing 1.5 million razor clam seeds into Suncheon Bay. This initiative aims to address the drastic decline in razor clam production, which has plummeted from 3,577 tons in the 1990s to just 8 tons in 2023, due to overharvesting, climate change, and slow recovery. Renowned for their flavor and exported to Japan, razor clams from this region are crucial for local fishermen's income. Since 2021, the institute has released a total of 1.9 million seeds to restore the population and enhance local livelihoods.
