A French agricultural high school in Sainte Livrade sur Lot has been confirmed to have the Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV), leading to the destruction of plants, fruits, and substrates, as well as a traceability investigation. The virus, which was first detected in Europe in 2018, primarily affects tomatoes and peppers and can spread easily through plant and seed contact, as well as human activity. The French Ministry of Agriculture and Food is implementing measures to prevent further spread, including disinfection, surveillance, and biosecurity rule enforcement, and has advised garden centers, producers, and amateur gardeners to take precautions. The virus does not pose a threat to human health.
