The European tomato market is experiencing record high prices, with the Netherlands seeing the highest peak among all countries. Prices have surged sharply in northwest Europe due to a decline in production with the onset of autumn. The biggest percentage increase was in the Netherlands, with tomato prices rising by 28% over the last five years and an additional 54% in September and October of 2022. High energy prices have led some producers to halt greenhouse cultivation in the Northwest region. Meanwhile, Spain has seen an increase of approximately 15% in its cultivated area.
