Uganda and Tanzania are reaping the benefits of avocado cultivation

In recent years, the avocado sector in Uganda has grown strongly thanks to companies such as Musubi Farm, which have further developed the image of this product on the international market. The European market is very important for Hass avocados, but there are other potential markets, especially in the Middle East. Now that the critical international market is opening up further, growers are being advised to grow Hass avocados. Sulma Foods, a processing and export company in the Luweero District, is the newest entrant to the industry. Director Abdul Karim Farid Karama says there is a market demand for larger numbers of Hass avocados. The company has set up a nursery where it propagates seedlings to supply to growers. Monitor.co.ug reports that some 693,000 tons of avocados were exported worldwide in the 2009 season. By 2019, this number had grown to 2,140,000 tons.
