Ukraine is poised to join the ranks of the seven largest poultry meat exporters, as per the head of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, Vladyslav Magaletskaya. The country is currently among the top ten poultry exporters globally, having exported nearly 217,000 tons of poultry meat and offal to 96 countries in the first half of 2021. Additionally, over 442.5 million poultry eggs were exported to 55 countries during the same period. Ukraine has recently opened markets in Ethiopia and Liberia, with plans to expand further, particularly in Asian and African regions. Magaletska emphasized the importance of maintaining the epizootic situation to support exports, notably restoring the bird-free status after bird flu control efforts. However, the risk of bird flu introduction remains due to wild migratory birds. Magaletska also noted that the World Assembly of the OIE Delegates has decided that outbreaks of influenza among poultry on private farms are non-trade related, implying trade restrictions should not be applied to countries with such outbreaks.
