In 2021, Ukraine exported a commercial batch of carrots to Saudi Arabia, marking a significant milestone for its vegetable export sector. The country exported 24 tons of carrots to Saudi Arabia in September, and its carrot exports to Belarus, the main market, increased by nearly three times to 11.6 thousand tons. Ukrainian carrot exports to Romania and Kazakhstan also doubled and tripled, respectively. Despite these achievements, the Ukrainian vegetable sector faces challenges such as lack of export market orientation and quality issues. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations emphasizes the potential of the Middle East market, which imports over 300,000 tons of fresh carrots annually, for Ukrainian vegetable growers.
