Ukraine's milk production has decreased by more than half, from 24.5 million tons in 1994 to 6.5 million tons in 2020, making it the 32nd largest producer in the world, according to Vadym Chagarovsky, chairman of the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine. The country has seen a significant decrease in the number of cows, from 8.5 million in 1990 to 1.7 million in 2020. Additionally, the Ukrainian dairy market is plagued with counterfeit products, especially those with a high fat content like butter and sour cream, with up to 40% of oil products being fake.
