Ukraine's sweeping proposal puts pressure on sunflower oil imports into the EU

During the current agricultural season, which began on July 1, the European Union has sharply reduced the import of rapeseed – by 47% compared to the same period last season to 1.26 million tons, according to data from the European Commission. Supplies from Ukraine between July and October inclusive have fallen by almost 50% to 755,500 tons, with the decline in October being slightly weaker – by almost 42% to 250,000 tons. However, Ukrainian experts point out that as of early November, rapeseed stocks in the country are relatively high - 1.6 million tons compared to 1 million tons in the same period last year, which suggests stronger exports by the end of the season compared to the same period last year. Increased rapeseed supplies to the EU from Moldova and Serbia have not been able to compensate for the decline from Ukraine.
