Within the initial six months of the 2024/25 marketing year, Ukraine emerged as a significant player in the global sugar market, exporting over 403.5 thousand tons of sugar, with 98.4% of this volume intended for international markets and the remainder, 1.6%, destined for the European Union. The resumption of sugar exports to the EU in February 2025 saw transactions totaling 6,559 tons, predominantly to Bulgaria, Greece, and Italy. Beyond the EU, Ukraine's primary sugar export markets included Turkey, Libya, North Macedonia, and Somalia. The country's robust sugar production during the 2024 season reached 1.8 million tons, a figure that exceeds the domestic demand by more than double, indicating a strong export focus and self-sufficiency in sugar production.
