ARLINGTON, VA. – The Meat Institute recently revealed an economic study that found that the meat and poultry processing industry contributes $57.3 billion to the U.S. economy and provides 584,000 jobs.

The sector, which includes livestock production, animal feed, equipment manufacturing, transportation, and others, contributes $347.7 billion to the nation's value and sustains 3.2 million jobs. “The meat and poultry industry is a fundamental and growing part of the U.S. economy, and one that is disproportionately important to rural economies,” said Julie Anna Potts, president and CEO of the Meat Institute. “Our member companies are often the largest employers in their rural communities, and their impact goes beyond employment.
