The USDA forecasts a slight decrease in world apple production for the 2024/25 season, estimated at 83.9 million tons, due to declines in the EU, US, Turkey, and Russia, which is not balanced by an expected increase in China. Owing to normal weather conditions and the introduction of higher yield varieties, China's production may rise by 1.5 million tons. In contrast, the EU's production is expected to drop by 1.1 million tons due to frost damage in Poland. The USDA also anticipates a minor increase in pear production, with China's production expected to rise, while the US and EU production is predicted to decline. Global exports of both apples and pears are expected to see slight growth, primarily driven by improved foreign sales in China and Türkiye.
