In 2023, Germany cultivated vegetables on about 123,000 hectares, with asparagus, onions, carrots, and salads making up over half of this area. The total cultivation area saw a decrease of nearly three percent from the previous year, while the organic cultivation area saw an increase of over three percent. Overall, 15 percent of the vegetable cultivation area was organically farmed, with significant variation depending on the crop. For instance, nearly 40 percent of pumpkin cultivation was organic, while only eight percent of asparagus cultivation, Germany's largest vegetable crop by area, was organic.
