The Vietnam Sugar Association reports that while over 90% of sugarcane cultivation's land preparation and tillage is mechanized, the rate for weeding, fertilization, and routine care remains low. Large enterprises have invested in mechanizing from land preparation to harvesting, improving efficiency and lowering costs, with around 15% of plantings using mechanized sugarcane harvesters. Many sugar factories have also invested in irrigation technologies and new sugarcane varieties, leading to a 166% increase in sugarcane production and a 161% increase in sugar production by 2023-2024, placing Vietnam's sugarcane industry at the top in the ASEAN region for the first time.
