Vietnam has signed a Protocol with China to export frozen durian, a move that could stabilize prices and increase earnings for the durian industry. However, to compete with Malaysia and Thailand, Vietnam needs to improve durian varieties and preservation technology, and invest in modern freezing systems. This could help increase export durian output by 70-80%. The protocol also allows for the export of durian during harvest season when fresh fruit cannot be exported or the price is low, helping to regulate market products and extend consumption time.
