Russian pork exports are expected to increase by 0.5 million tons per year if China opens its market, potentially generating up to US$1 billion in additional revenue for the Russian pork industry, according to Sergey Novikov, General Director of Agropromcomplektatsya. However, China's slow response may be due to concerns over African swine fever epidemic in Russia. President Putin has committed to discussing the issue with China and expects a positive outcome, given China's previous recognition of France's regionalization system and its openness to Russian poultry and beef exports. In 2021, China was Russia's largest poultry importer, purchasing nearly 50% of Russian broiler meat sales. Overall, Russian meat exports are projected to reach 550,000 tonnes this year, valued at US$1.5 billion.
