In the Argentine agro-industrial community, there is a gigantic wage gap, which is explained not only by union issues but also by regional and geographical factors. In the past month of March 2015 (the latest official data available), the average wage of registered workers in the Argentine private sector at the national level was 1,674,891 pesos. One third of the employees in the agro-industrial sector are above the average, while the remaining two thirds not only fail to reach the average but are even well below it. At the top of the ranking, with an average income of 7.94 million pesos last March, are the workers in the fertilizer industry. As it is a branch of the hydrocarbon sector that works to serve agriculture, the salaries are more in line with the pay scales of oil workers (the highest at the national level) than those of the agricultural sector.
