Vietnam has seen a surge in whiteleg shrimp exports in July, reaching the highest level this year with 32,831 tonnes, despite high sea freight rates. The exports experienced a decrease only in China, Hong Kong, and the EU, but there was an increase in major markets like the US, Japan, South Korea, and the UK. The US remains the largest market for Vietnamese whiteleg shrimp, with exports increasing for the fourth consecutive month and prices also on a continuous rise since February. The US market presents a significant opportunity for Vietnamese shrimp due to labor and food safety issues with competitors from Ecuador and India. Furthermore, a slight increase in US shrimp demand is anticipated in the third quarter, along with a expected rise in prices due to increased purchasing power during the year-end holidays.
