National fresh produce markets across the country will undergo investigation following allegations of anti-competitive conduct in South Africa’s fresh produce value chain. The investigation is led by South Africa’s Competition Commission. The Fresh Produce Market Inquiry (FPMI) will commence on 31 March and probe all fresh produce markets in the country. According to commissioner Doris Tshepe, the 18-month-long investigation will examine problems in the fresh produce value chain that make access and participation in the value chain difficult. Tshepe was addressing members of the media at the official launch of the FPMI in Tshwane, Gauteng.
