A managing director and agronomist, Garba Attahiru Madami, has identified the excessive use of inorganic fertilizers and herbicides as the reason for the rejection of Nigerian yams in foreign markets. He also emphasizes the need for farmers to adopt the right production mechanisms and for the government to encourage best practices in crop production. He laments the lack of training and retraining of farmers by federal and state governments and the high cost of seedlings.
