Italian wine exports in 2023 experienced a slight decrease of 1% in volumes and 0.8% in values, marking the third negative annual budget in the new millennium due to cyclical and structural factors. Despite the decline, Italy remains the leader in exported volumes, outperforming Spain which saw a 4.1% drop. There was a significant decrease in still wines with denomination in the bottle, particularly red wines, while bulk wines destined for Germany increased by 12%. Sparkling wines experienced a 2.3% volume decrease but a 3.3% value increase. The export performance varied between the EU and non-EU countries, with Germany being the only top 5 buyer showing positive results.
