Peru leads South American exports and is only surpassed by China globally

Asparagus is a perennial flowering plant and its young shoot is known as asparagus. Whether they are white, green, frozen or fresh, this vegetable has become one of the most commercialized worldwide. In the year 2021, according to the Report Linker ranking, China topped the list of producers of this vegetable, with a total of 8.6 million metric tons. It is followed by Peru with 378,510 tons per year and Mexico with 302,490 tons in the same year. The Andean nation is the only one in South America in the top 10 of the main asparagus markets.
