In W23 in the chicken-egg landscape, in the Ukrainian market, the prices of chicken eggs continue to fall, which rose sharply in the fall of 2022. In Siberia, more than 656 thousand chicken-hatching eggs were exported in the first five months of 2023, which is 2 times more than in the same period in 2022. In addition, almost 71.5 million fresh chicken eggs were exported from the district, 1.5 times more than in the first 5 months of 2022. According to the USDA, the typical wholesale price of a dozen eggs is now between USD 0.99-1.39 in the US, far lower than the wholesale price of USD 5 per dozen in multiple parts of the country earlier in 2023. This is mainly because the industry is recovering from the bird flu outbreak. In Chile, the production of eggs dropped 7.7% MoM in April, from 345,633,159 units to 318,936,040 units. This decrease was mainly due to the lower production of white eggs, which fell by 8.5%, while the number of colored eggs decreased by 6.0%.
The Malaysian government originally planned to allow the prices of broiler chickens and eggs to float freely from July 1, but changed its mind and will continue to impose price controls. As a result, the government needs to bear a monthly subsidy of USD 43.31M. The recent increase in the price of chicken eggs in Indonesia has been indirectly attributed to a rise in the price of corn, which is the major ingredient in poultry feed. There are several corn-producing areas in West Nusa Tenggara, such as Dompu, Bima, and Sumbawa, whereas chicken farms are concentrated in Kendal and Blitar, resulting in high transportation costs. Bapanas have a distribution facility, which pays for the costs of moving corn from Dompu, Sumbawa, and Bima to layer centres (breeders) in Kendal and Blitar. This would ease the financial strain of transporting maize for breeders, lowering the price of eggs. Lastly, in South Korea, egg production is expected to increase during the summer. The average daily egg production in June was 45.73 million, an increase of 1.8% YoY and 4.8% from the average year. Meanwhile, in July, chicken egg production is estimated to increase to 45.4 million, up 0.4% YoY and 1.5% from the average year.
