China

Market of Australian Mangoes in Shanghai, China for November 10, 2022 (Nov 21)

On November 10, 2022, some Australian mangoes shipped to the wholesale market in Shanghai. The first batch of R2E2 via air shipment is a total of two pallets, the price range stood at USD 74.03-81.01/8-12pcs (RMB 530-580/8-12pcs), and barely half of the pallet has been sold. The R2E2 premium class with golden box packaging sold very slowly. Due to the epidemic in China, other brands and kinds of Australian mangoes are cheaper than R2E2. Nonetheless, sales are still slower than in 2021.

Indonesia

In Indonesia, the Harvest of Arumanis Mango Variety Has Dropped Drastically in 2022 (Nov 24)

The harvest of the Arumanis mango variety this 2022 has dropped sharply in Indonesia. There will be no big harvest this 2022 as the yield from the harvest period in October-November drops to 30%-40% compared to 2022. In addition to a decrease in yields, the quality of the fruit has also declined. The fruit from this year's harvest tends to ripe faster and therefore has a shorter shelf life. To reduce the chance of fruit damage if it is sent to the export market, dealers typically concentrate more on the local market. This condition is suspected to be due to erratic weather since entering the rainy period this year. The East Java province is the primary growing area for Arumanis mangoes.

Costa Rica

Costa Rican Mangoes Pre-season Negotiations Started in W47 and Upcoming Season Is Forecasted to Start in W5 2023 (Nov 24)

The upcoming mango season in Costa Rica is forecasted to start during W5 2023 and extend until W16. The Costa Rican season benefits directly from the gap between the Peruvian and Mexican mango seasons. Providing suppliers with a 12-week window to position the product in the international market, pre-season negotiations will start from W47.

Peru

Cold Temperatures on the Peruvian Coast Affect Mango Production (Nov 21)

In W46, cold temperatures on the Peruvian coast have affected the production of mangoes in Casma, whose harvest will start on W4 2023. It is forecasted that prices in 2023 will increase significantly compared to 2022. The sizes of mangoes will increase, but the yield is expected to be lower.

Transportation Strike in Peru Affects Harvest and Transport of Mangoes in W47 (Nov 22)

On November 22nd, 2022, Peru experienced a transportation strike that affected the harvest and transport to ports of mangoes from North of Peru. In W47, mango suppliers are not harvesting and will wait until the strike is over. Commonly transport strikes last up to 48 hours, but if the current strike takes longer, there will be a loss of one week of exports from Peru.

Peruvian Mango Volumes Are Expected to Increase Up to 25% In the 2022-2023 Season (Nov 25)

Long transit times in the 2021-2022 season meant Peruvian mangoes arrived at their destination in poor conditions. For the upcoming 2022-2023 season, logistic operators offered shipments with shorter transit times of 28 to 33 days to the US. Despite the late start, mango shippers expect a strong season.
