Prior to the spread of the coronavirus, a new trading channel for white pepper has opened between the white pepper farmer association in Luwu regency in South Sulawesi province, Indonesia and a number of importers in Taiwan. The cooperation was facilitated by the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia through its attache in Taiwan. In the first quarter of 2020, 20 MT of both white peppercorn and white pepper powder from this region has been exported to Taiwan. Given the current import stoppage as the result of the coronavirus pandemic, the farmers in Luwu expect their exports will commence as usual once the import stoppage has been lifted.
