Unlike several economic segments that suffered the effects of the pandemic, especially the bars and restaurants, the wine segment in Brazil, has had a surprising growth and well above the average, compared to the same period in 2019. Sales of the Brazilian wines increased 39% in the first four months of this year. Commercialization totaled 4.4 million liters between January and April 2020, compared to 3.2 million liters in the first four months of last year. In addition to the increase in sales of supermarkets and emporiums, those were carried out by the online channel or e-commerce. The average increase in online sales was 80%. This result was a relief to Brazilian producers who had been coming since 2015, losing space to imported ones.
Another fact that drew attention was the sale of wines of up to R$ 30.00/un, (which represent 70% of sales of fine wines), carried out in traditional channels. Imported wines also had an important growth in this period, although it wouldn't be possible to outperformed if compared to the Brazilian product all fundamentals considerded. In summary and in a quick radiography, we can say that numbers, between imported and national, are as follows:
- 4.4 million liters of wine varieties (fine wine) were sold, an increase of 39% from January to April 2020, compared to the same period in 2019.
- 35 million liters of national and imported fine wines were sold in the first four months of 2020, an increase of 10% in relation to January and April 2019, when 31.9 million liters were sold.
- 30.6 million liters of imported wines were sold, an increase of 7% from January to April 2020, compared to the same period in 2019.
- In total, 97 million liters of national and imported fine and table wines were sold from January to April 2020, an increase of 21% over the same period last year, when 79.9 million liters were sold.
- Sparkling wines, in general, fell 11.9% in the first four months of 2020, with the sale of 4.1 million liters.
- Sparkling muscatels fell 4%, with the sale of 1 million liters.
- Imported sparkling wines increased by 2%, with the sale of 1.5 million liters in the first four months of 2020.
- Brazilian sparkling wines recorded a 25% decrease in the first quarter of 2020, with the sale of 1.6 million liters.
