As an alternative to turmeric and ginger to strengthen the immune system amid the coronavirus pandemic, Javanese long pepper has also now been used to serve the same purpose. Javanese long pepper has been clinically proven to help boost immunity and is usually mixed with natural honey to be made as a traditional drink in Indonesia. One contributing factor for this alternative is that the price of turmeric and ginger is still high, and there is a consumer segment who was driven to opt for a more affordable option. In Central Java, for example, long pepper can still be easily found in the market at a far lower price compared to ginger or turmeric at IDR 40.000/Kg.
