The wave of polar air from the Ciril storm wiped out 80% of the almond and cherry harvest and compromised 50% of the stone fruit production. Temperatures of up to -4 degrees put an end to the expectations of having a good year for thousands of farmers from Alto Vinalopó, El Comtat, l’Alcoià and the interior of the Marina Alta.
Antonio Gascón, responsible for Agricultural Insurance at ASAJA Alicante, calculates in a first estimate that the frost that occurred on the morning of Sunday, 3 April, has caused losses of more than USD 23.90 million for Alicante agriculture.
