Only 20 to 30% of sesame producers have signed a sales contract this season. Most of them are holding on in hopes that prices will continue to rise. The first contracts were closed at around R$ 3.50 (US$ 0.63/ kg) in the farmgate, while the last contracts were already closed at around R$ 4.30 (US$ 0.78/ kg). On the other hand, experts believe that prices tend to fall below the level of R$ 4.00 (US$ 0.73/ kg) with the increase in supply.
