In the Canadian red lentil market, prices continue to show a downward trend. In January 2023, prices decreased by around USD 30 per tonne. During W4, wholesale prices are quoted at USD 710/tonne CIF Mersin, Turkey container, and USD 690/tonne CIF Mersin, Turkey bulk trade. The decline is due to Australia's assertive entry into the market and the lack of demand from India for Canadian cargo. Offers are being made for new crop September/October 2023, loading at USD 680/ton, CIF Mersin for container loading. Canada has enough cargo, so prices may fall further as it needs to adapt to global market conditions.
