Covid lockdowns are coming back to Europe, and importers are feeling the drop in consumption. In the initial lockdowns in 2020, consumption didn't drop as drastically as it has now. During the 2020 lockdown, purchases of avocados in supermarkets went up by a minimum of 10%, while wholesalers and the HORECA business took a big hit.

Speculators think that the robust economy at the beginning of the pandemic contributed to confident purchasing decisions, especially for "luxury fruits" such as Mango, Avocado, and Blueberry. However, in this November 2021 lockdown, a depressed economy and inflation seem to be hesitating consumers from purchasing said "luxury fruits" as they did during the 2020 lockdown. In fact, since the inception of this current lockdown, importers are seeing a 10% decrease in avocado purchases at the retail level and a complete halt in HORECA and Wholesale business.
