American red plums have become increasingly popular in the Vietnamese market, especially among consumers seeking premium produce, despite costing up to USD 22 per kilogram (kg). Contributing factors include their larger size, sweet and juicy flavor, and perceived higher quality than local plums. The absence of domestic plums during the off-season has also created a market gap filled by these imports. The premium price is primarily due to increased logistics costs from air freight and the higher quality standards of imported produce, leading consumers to pay extra for the convenience and perceived health benefits.
