Despite Inflation, Seafood Consumption in Italy Increased in W52

Despite the recent turmoil regarding the increasing prices in Italy, seafood consumption in W52 increased by 20% YoY. Domestic fish products have been the most popular among Italians, even though they are more expensive than cheaper imported seafood. The fish market in Sicily has run out of stock on fish and frozen products. Prices have been rising in the past few weeks, but in W52, prices dropped slightly. Compared to 2021, the price of swordfish, salmon, and squid increased by 7%. On the other hand, clams registered the highest rise, reaching 33% YoY, from USD 19.10/kg in 2021 to USD 25.47/kg in 2022.
