Summer droughts are the primary cause of Maine's potato crop being the smallest produced in over 100 years. USDA data estimates the state's potato production will be 13.4 million cwt for 2020, down 20% from last year, and the lowest since 1918. Acres planted also fell by 2% to 51,000.
