Turkish Interdonato lemons entered the European market as early as mid-Sept-24, creating significant competition for other European lemons. While the Turkish lemon season is forecasted to end by Dec-24, Mediterranean countries struggle to compete with prices of around USD 0.80 per kilogram (kg) delivered to Central European markets. Along with lemons, Turkish vegetables like tomatoes and zucchini are also entering the European market, filling the production gap in Europe during the autumn. However, stricter border controls on MRL (Maximum Residue Levels) lead to numerous product rejections for failing to meet European Union (EU) consumer safety regulations.
