Ethiopia Banned the Import of 38 Products to Curb Inflation and Devaluation of the Local Currency

The government of Ethiopia announced a ban on importing goods under 38 categories including whiskies, chewing gums, packed foods, and drinks. The ban was announced on October 14, 2022, aiming to control local currency devaluation and the skyrocketing inflation of consumer goods. Hence, neither opening LC nor requesting dollars to import all 38 listed items is prohibited. In general, the prohibition is made on 38 items that are considered luxury products.
