The President of the European Commission announced on 11 March that an embargo on luxury goods, including wines and spirits, is implemented. This measure is part of the fourth wave of sanctions against Russia since its invasion of Ukraine on 24 February. This sanction aims to deprive Russian elites of their access to luxury goods and assets. The specific framework applied to the Russian market is expected to be set soon by the European Commission. However, this embargo is only symbolic as the majority of French shipments of wines and spirits to Russia are already suspended.
