The Colombian government denies the rumor regarding the Ecuadorean rice import

At the beginning of the year, the rumor that the Colombian government would buy 10,000 MT of Ecuadorean rice circulated. Fedearroz, National Federation of Rice Producers, denied this information, informing that Colombia has sufficient dry rice reserves for the following months of 2022 and also has a sufficient planted area, approximately 580,000 hectares, to maintain and increase these inventories.
Regarding white rice, the import volume of 2021 decreased by more than 90%. The countries where Colombia mainly imports rice are the United States, Ecuador, and Peru. Meanwhile, the regions with the highest rice production in Colombia are the departments of Tolima, Huila, and the Eastern Plains.
