US YTD pistachio shipments until the end of July 2022 indicate a 16% increase compared to the same time last year. Pistachios continue to show strong growth with high demand from Asian markets. However, shipments into the domestic US market have slowed down during July. The pistachio industry is expected to carry over about 181,437MT to 192,777MT of inventory into the 2023 crop. This will be one of the largest carryovers the market has seen in recent years.

The 2022 harvest has commenced in Arizona and in some of the southern parts of California and is one week earlier than last year. The expectation is that harvest volumes will increase from W34 and ramp up towards the end of August. Prices have remained steady with a light increase in prices due to doubts about whether the US crop will reach 453,592MT (1B pounds). However, it is still too early to get a clear picture of total crop size and quality for the 2022 season.
