Indonesia imports heavily from China and other countries, especially commodities such as oranges, apples, grapes, and other fruits. In the 1st quarter of 2022, where the exchange rate is stable at 14,200-14,400 IDR per US dollar, it has risen close to 15,000 IDR per USD as of July 2022; this creates a big gap in a disparity between exchange rates resulting in importers to demand to pay in Chinese RMB for Chinese fruits or other more stable currency for other countries.
