Canada’s lentil exports for the 2021-2022 season fell 31% YoY to 1.6M tons, out of which 1M tons were red lentils and 0.6M tons were green lentils. Canadian lentil exports mainly went to Turkey, India, and the United Arab Emirates.

The new crop (season 2022-2023) productions are estimated to increase by 73% YoY to 2.8M tons. Green lentil production is estimated to be 500K tons higher than in the 2021-2022 season, and red lentil production is estimated to increase by 400K tons. Production of other lentil types is forecasted to be higher than last season by 260K tons.

Canadian lentil exports are forecasted to be higher in the 2022-2023 season, with India, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Turkey remaining as the most important export markets. As production is forecasted to increase, prices are also forecasted to drop. Offers from Canadian producers for November and December shipments were between USD 785-800/tons CFR Mersin. However, many buyers expect lower rates as the season progresses, so they are postponing their purchases.
